Common questions
& Clear answers.

Everything you need to know about Visentor interest math, data privacy, and debt payoff strategies.

General

I already use Mint or YNAB. Why would I need this?

Mint and YNAB are built around budgeting and spending tracking. Visentor is built around one thing: figuring out exactly when you'll be debt-free and how to get there faster. It uses daily interest accrual to match what your bank actually charges, which most budgeting tools don't do. You can also use it without linking any accounts.

Does it work outside the US?

The math engine works for any currency and any standard APR-based credit card. The card catalog is focused on US-issued cards right now, but you can manually add any card from any country.

Calculations

How accurate is the debt-free date?

Interest is calculated daily (balance x APR / 365), the same formula your bank uses. Most calculators use a monthly shortcut that can push the estimated payoff date off by several weeks on a multi-year plan.

Can I compare Avalanche and Snowball side by side?

Every plan automatically shows total interest and payoff time for both strategies, plus a Hybrid recommendation. You can switch between them and see the numbers update instantly.

Security

Where is my data stored?

By default, everything stays in your browser's local database (IndexedDB). Nothing is sent anywhere. If you use Pro sync, your data is encrypted with a key only you control before it leaves your device.

Why don't you connect to my bank directly?

Connecting to your bank means handing your login credentials to a third party. For a debt payoff planner, manual entry or CSV import gets you accurate numbers without that tradeoff.

Pricing & Billing

What's the difference between Free and Pro?

The Free plan includes the full payoff engine, strategy comparisons, and strategy simulations for up to 3 cards. The Pro plan adds multi-device sync, advanced AI-powered debt advice, and unlimited card slots.

What happens to my data if I cancel?

Your data remains safe. You will keep your Pro features until the end of your billing cycle, after which your account will revert to the Free tier. We never delete your data; it simply remains locally on your device or in our encrypted cloud if you choose to resubscribe later.

Can I downgrade my plan?

Yes, you can cancel your Pro subscription at any time to revert to the Free tier. Your data will be preserved, and you will only lose access to Pro-specific features like multi-device sync and unlimited cards. We also offer a 14-day refund policy.

Can I switch between monthly and annual billing?

Yes, you can switch your billing frequency at any time from your account settings. Changes take effect at the start of your next billing cycle.

Do you offer a free trial for Pro?

We don't offer a traditional trial, but we have a 14-day 'no-questions-asked' refund policy. You can try all Pro features risk-free and get a full refund if it's not a fit for your debt journey.

Is there a limit on how many devices I can sync?

No. Visentor Pro allows you to sync your debt profile across as many devices as you own (phone, tablet, laptop) using your secure account.

Can I use Visentor offline?

Yes. Visentor is a local-first application. All your data and the math engine reside on your device, so you can plan your debt payoff even without an internet connection. Sync (Pro) requires a brief connection to update your other devices.

Is my financial data sold to third parties?

Never. Visentor is an ad-free, local-first platform. We make money solely through Pro subscriptions, not by selling user data or pushing financial products. Your privacy is our product.

Do I need to link my bank account to get started?

No. You can manually enter your balances and APRs or use our bank templates. This ensures your financial credentials never leave your device, providing the highest level of security and privacy.

Can I export my debt payoff plan?

Yes. Visentor Pro users can export their payoff schedule and month-by-month breakdown to CSV for use in spreadsheets or PDF for easy printing and offline tracking.

Is there a limit on the number of cards I can track?

The Free tier allows you to track and simulate up to 3 cards. Visentor Pro removes this limit, allowing you to manage an unlimited number of cards, loans, and other APR-based debts.

Interest Math

How is daily interest actually calculated?

Banks use the Daily Balance Method: (Current Balance × APR) ÷ 365. This amount is added to your debt every single day. Visentor uses this exact same formula to ensure your debt-free date is mathematically accurate, not just an estimate.

What is the difference between APR and APY?

APR is the annual rate. APY is the 'Effective Rate' that includes the effect of daily compounding. Because interest is charged every day, you end up paying slightly more than the nominal APR over a full year.

Credit Score

How much does credit utilization affect my score?

Utilization (how much of your limit you're using) accounts for roughly 30% of your FICO score. It is the single fastest lever you can pull to increase your score; as soon as you pay down a balance and it's reported, your score can jump within 30 days.

What is the 'ideal' utilization ratio?

While stay under 30% is the common advice, 'Elite' credit scores (800+) typically maintain a utilization ratio under 10%. Visentor helps you target specific balances to hit these key thresholds.
